About

SOILTESTING, INC. was founded in 1958 by Robert J. DeAngelis (1928-2003), a Civil Engineer, in Ansonia, CT and is presently being managed at its current location in Oxford, CT by James A. DeAngelis, an Engineering Geologist (M.Sc., P.G.) with over 30 years experience in subsurface investigations.

SOILTESTING, INC. has been performing subsurface investigations/test borings since 1958 throughout Southern New England, New York and New Jersey.  We obtain subsurface information for project construction feasibility, foundation design and for determining the cause/solution to foundation settlement problems. Since 1999 we have been performing underpinning services for the correction of foundation settlement and pile installations for new construction.

With over 50 years experience in test borings, we understand the importance of having a knowledge of subsurface conditions for the design of foundations and we take this experience with us to projects in the feasibility, construction and settlement correction phases. We take pride in getting the information (with test borings) our clients need to design new foundations and carry this same regard into our pile installations and underpinning services.

The versatility of SOILTESTING, INC.‘s principals, associates and staff allows us to successfully and economically apply their talents and expertise to diverse projects such as:

Geotechnical drilling

  • HSA, mud rotary and cased drilling methods including split spoon sampling (SPT), shelby tube, piston sample, vane shear, packer and permeability testing and installation of geotechnical instrumentation
  • Mud rotary drilling to depths in excess of 200 feet and diamond core drilling to depths in excess of 250 feet
  • Truck, track, ATV, skid, tripod and pontoon float-mounted equipment including low headroom/interior work experience

Environmental drilling

  • 1″ to 10″ diameter monitor/recovery wells (2¼” to 12¼” i.d. HSA)
  • Split spoon sampling, rock coring, packer testing and permeability testing
  • 4″-6″ air rotary rock drilling services

Underpinning

  • For corrective measures to settlement problems, stopping and reversing (if possible) foundation settlements
  • Typical systems used include helical piles, push piles/resistance piers and micro piles.

Piles/Tiebacks/Tiedown Anchors

  • Helical piles and micro piles, helical tiebacks, grouted tiedown anchors in soil and bedrock
